Dutch tuner Heritage Customs has shared details of a project called Valiance Pick-Up, which involves converting a Defender station wagon into a premium pickup. This is claimed to be the first time this has happened with a current-generation model. The conversion starts at €65,000 ($74,750), excluding the cost of the donor SUV.

The pickup is based on the Defender 130, the longest body in the family. The custom truck bed is compact – just one meter long and 1.4 meters wide. The tailgate hinges sideways, rather than downwards. The tuner likely intended to preserve the Defender‘s standard dimensions and a full two-row interior.

Heritage Customs isn’t going into technical details, but official photos, in addition to the opening mechanism for the tailgate, show a rigid partition between the interior and the bed, which features a transparent insert. The studio’s announcement mentions a wide range of paint options for the pickup’s exterior and interior trim, as well as a set of new wheels.

Creating such a pickup takes two to three months, not including the time it takes to select a donor vehicle. Heritage Customs expects to begin production of production models in January.
