The best-selling cars of the European market have been named. Dacia Sandero, which occupied second place in 2022 and 2023, climbed to first place in sales in the first half of the year in Europe. Europeans bought 143,596 of these cars, 16 percent more than in the same period a year earlier. The Romanian hatchback displaced the Volkswagen Golf from its leadership position, which was not helped even by a 43 percent increase in sales: it lagged behind the Sandero by about 20 thousand units sold.
The Golf is followed by the Renault Clio, which was chosen by 114,623 European buyers – 15 percent more than in the first half of 2023. The fourth by a small margin was the Volkswagen T-Roc (111,381 units), and the fifth was the Peugeot 208 (107,097 units, +1 percent).
The most popular electric car remains the Tesla Model Y, which took eighth place in the overall standings. Over six months, the American brand sold 101,181 electric crosses, losing a quarter of buyers.
