Declassified electric crossover Kia the size of Sportage. This is a global model that carries the EV5 index and is positioned as the “junior” crossover after EV9. The Chinese portal AutoHome publishes photos of new items from the database of the local Ministry of Industry: judging by the pictures, the car almost exactly repeats the concept of the same name, presented this spring. The public premiere of the serial Kia EV5 will take place at the Chengdu Motor Show in late August, and sales will begin in November.
China will be the first market for the Kia EV5, where the model will be produced and shipped from there to foreign markets. According to certification documents cited by Chinese journalists, the crossover will receive a battery with a capacity of 82 kilowatt-hours and a range of 600 kilometers. It also became known that the EV5 uses a 400-volt charging system instead of a faster, but more expensive 800-volt charging system.
Externally, the EV5 is similar to both the concept and the “older” EV9: they have a similar line of glazing, black pillars, retractable door handles and a smooth blank panel in place of the radiator grille. At the same time, the front optics of the serial crossover is somewhat simplified compared to the concept, but the taillights migrated to the “commodity” version almost unchanged.
The Kia EV5 will be the second EV in China after the EV6. EV9 is scheduled to launch in China in 2024. And from 2025 to 2027, three more “green” models will go on sale: a compact crossover, a sedan and a mid-size crossover.
