Toyota has an inexpensive crossover with a naturally aspirated engine and manual transmission. The Starlet Cross model, known in India as the Urban Cruiser Taisor, has entered the South African market. Unlike its Indian relative, the Starlet Cross is equipped with only a 1.5 engine, while the Urban Cruiser Taisor has two units available: a 1.2-liter four-cylinder and a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder. The new model costs from R299,900, which is equivalent to 28,000 manat.
The Indian crossover Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor (aka Suzuki Fronx) has a South African twin brother, the Starlet Cross. The cars look the same, not only on the outside, but also on the inside. However, they cost different amounts. The Indian Urban Cruiser Taisor starts at 773,500 rupees (16,000 manat), Starlet Cross – from 299,900 rand (28,000 manat). In the first case, buyers get a naturally aspirated 1.2 (90 hp, 113 Nm) paired with a five-speed manual, in the second – a more powerful 1.5 unit, developing 105 hp and 138 Nm.
For Starlet Cross, this engine is the only one, it can be combined with both a manual and an automatic. But the Urban Cruiser Taisor is also available with a 1.0 turbo three (100 hp, 148 Nm), supplemented by a manual or a six-speed automatic. Prices for such cars start from 1,055,000 Indian rupees, or 22,000 manat. The drive is always front-wheel drive. The Starlet Cross crossover consumes an average of 5.8 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers. The maximum speed is 170 kilometers per hour.
The new product is equipped with LED headlights, a media system with Apple CarPlay and Androud Aito support, two airbags and a basic set of electronic assistants: ABS, brake force distribution system, electronic stabilization system and hill start assist system. For an extra charge and in senior trim levels, they will offer a 360-degree view, folding mirrors, keyless entry and wireless charging.
