Simultaneously with the presentation of the new BMW 7-Series G70 sedan, the Germans also presented an all-electric version of the “seven”, called the BMW i7. Both versions have an identical body and outside differ only in decor.
Like the original, the electric BMW i7 received a new style front with narrow strips of running lights and main headlight units located below them, which are hidden behind tinted glass and look like air ducts.
Also here are the huge “nostrils” that have already become traditional, a completely new hood, original design rims, door handles recessed into the body and a wide chrome trim on the C-pillar. Due to the flat bottom, the drag coefficient of the model is 0.24.
Inside, the 2023 BMW i7 sports a minimalistic front fascia with virtually no physical buttons and hidden ventilation ducts. In front of the driver are two large screens with a diagonal of 12.3 (left) and 14.9 (right) inches.
For rear passengers, separate seats are optionally offered instead of a sofa and a huge folding 31″ BMW Theater Screen widescreen monitor mounted on the ceiling and 8K resolution. There is also an “Executive Lounge” package with the ability to turn the right rear seat into a sun lounger.
So far, the electric BMW i7 is presented in the only xDrive60 version, which is equipped with two electric motors (one on each axle). The power of the front is 258 hp, while the rear produces 313 hp.
The total output of the installation reaches 544 “horses” and 745 Nm of torque. From zero to hundreds, a car weighing 2,640 kg can accelerate in 4.7 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to 240 km / h. The movement of the electric car is accompanied by musical accompaniment (to warn pedestrians about the approach of a car), on which the German composer Hans Zimmer worked.
The electrical system on the BMW i7 runs at 376 volts and the underfloor traction battery has a capacity of 101.7 kWh. Mileage with a fully charged battery on the WLTP cycle is declared at the level of 590 kilometers.
In terms of charging, the onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW. At the same time, the DC charger supports power up to 195 kW. In the presence of the latter, it is possible to replenish the battery capacity from 10 to 80% in about half an hour.
When creating the new “seven”, the Bavarians refused to create modifications with a short and long wheelbase, so that all versions of the model now have the same dimensions. The overall length of the 2023 BMW i7 is 5,391, the width is 1,950, the height is 1,544, the distance between the axles is 3,215, and the trunk volume is 500 liters.
Already in the base, the sedan has adaptive cruise control, and in the future it may receive a third-level autopilot (the hardware is already on board, but the software is not yet ready and will be offered for an additional fee in the form of an update). Also ah 7 can be retrofitted with the remote valet parking function.
The model will be released at the company’s plant in Dingolfing, the start of sales is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022, the price tag for the i7 xDrive60 version will start at $119,300. Later, an even more powerful version of the i7 M70 xDrive with a return of 660 “horses” is expected.
