Sales in the global auto market have been falling for the third month in a row. In August, 6.89 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold across the planet, according to calculations by the consulting company GlobalData. This is 3.5 percent less than in August 2023, and 2.3 percent less than the result of July 2024. China retains the global lead, but the gap with its closest competitor has narrowed.
In China, 1.97 million cars were sold in the last summer month, which is 9.8 percent less than in August 2023. The second place is occupied by the United States, where sales managed to increase by 7.1 percent, to 1.43 million cars, reducing the gap with the leader.
