Mercedes-Benz is preparing to premiere a new generation of the legendary G-Class. The iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV has been produced since 1979, but formally the history of the model dates back to 1990 – that’s when the G-Class appeared with the usual index. For more than 30 years, the car has undergone only two generations, the last of which appeared in 2018. Six years after its premiere, the second generation of the G-Class is preparing to leave the stage – it is confirmed that a new generation of Gelendvagen will see the light in 2024.
Business Insider Germany, citing internal Mercedes-Benz documentation obtained by journalists, reports that production of the iconic SUV will cease in the first quarter of 2024. The exact date for the model’s removal from the assembly line has not been announced, but it can be assumed that the production of the Gelendvagen will be completed after all orders received for the model have been completed.
The classic SUV will be replaced by a more technological version, created taking into account modern trends. G-Class project manager Emeric Schiller noted that the new car will have a more aerodynamically sophisticated design and significantly reduced fuel consumption, which the introduction of hybrid power plants will also help achieve.
The new generation of G-Class will also feature a fully electric version for the first time. The Mercedes-Benz EQG model will be part of the EQ brand sub-brand, which includes cars with an electric powertrain. The premiere date for this version of Gelendvagen has not been announced, but it should not be delayed – the electric SUV will appear shortly after the debut of the basic modification.
