The British resource Autocar provided details about the future Mercedes-Benz G-Class – a small G-class. Such a car will appear only in 2026 and will be similar to a real Gelendvagen only in appearance.
Mercedes-Benz technical director Markus Schäfer said the G-Class will be built on the MMA platform, which will be used in the CLA sedan. Accordingly, there will be no frame body. Moreover, the powertrain will be exclusively electric: presumably, the G-Class will receive a new 800-volt electrical system with traction batteries of up to 85 kWh.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, despite its monocoque body, will retain good off-road capabilities like the older model (it will have all-wheel drive). But in terms of design, the G-Class will be very similar to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
In total, in 2026, the Gelendvagen line will be represented by three models: full-size gasoline (G-Class) and electric (EQG), as well as a compact electric (G-Class).
