Renault has unveiled an upgraded version of the Espace crossover, which plays the role of a family model in the brand’s lineup due to its seven-seater interior. Technically, the Espace has hardly changed, but its appearance has been noticeably transformed and it has received a number of new technologies, including voice control of the panoramic roof. In a number of European countries, the new product will be available at the end of spring.
The Espace’s appearance has been brought closer to the brand’s modern style and models like the Austral and Rafale. The company says that more than a third of the crossover‘s body parts are new. The Espace has received a redesigned front end with a different bumper, radiator grille and hood, a different trunk door and more modern lighting with characteristic vertical running lights.
The main change in the interior that the company draws attention to is the panoramic roof with its own name Solarbay. With a length of 1.7 meters, it is 1.13 meters wide and is called the largest in the Renault lineup. The roof is divided into nine segments with adjustable transparency, which can be controlled by giving commands to the voice assistant.
The updated Espace has become the first Renault equipped with a facial recognition camera. It is built into the left front pillar. Identification of the driver leads to the automatic application of personal settings – media system and seat. The seats themselves are also new: they received an optimized profile with improved lateral support.
Renault Espace, as before, will be equipped with a hybrid power plant. It consists of a 1.2-liter gasoline turbo engine, an electric motor and a starter generator, which together develop 200 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes the crossover 8.8 seconds with a fuel consumption of 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers and a total range of 1,100 kilometers.
