The joint venture of Volkswagen and SAIC at the Chengdu Motor Show declassified the local modification of the Passat model. Unlike the European version, the version for the PRC has a four-door body and is larger in size. No specifications have been officially announced yet, but some data was declassified during the certification process. Sales start on September 10.
The basic version of the Chinese Passat looks almost the same as the European one, taking into account the body type. However, the sedan in the PRC will also have a modification with an original design – more aggressive bumpers and black decor.
The interior architecture of the Chinese Passat also generally repeats the station wagon for the ES, with the exception of some options exclusive to the local market. For example, the Volkswagen Passat will have a passenger display with a diagonal of 11.6 inches and a button on the front seat, by pressing which the rear passenger can move the seat as far as possible, thereby freeing up additional legroom.
According to previously published certification data, the VW Passat for China, with a length of 5006 millimeters, will receive a wheelbase of 2871 millimeters. Two turbo engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters, developing 160 and 220 forces, respectively, are prepared for the four-door. They will work with a seven-speed “robot”, the most powerful sedan will accelerate to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
