Land Rover has unveiled the flagship of the Range Rover Sport line. The SUV with the SV prefix received a 635-horsepower “biturbo-eight”, mechatronics recalibrated for dynamic driving and 6D Dynamics adaptive air suspension with a hydraulic system instead of active stabilizers. Also for the first time, carbon-fiber wheels with a diameter of 23 inches and carbon-ceramic brakes with eight-piston Brembo calipers on the front axle were offered for the car.
The new Range Rover Sport SV is the most technically sophisticated and powerful member of the family. Its 4.4-liter V8 biturbo engine is equipped with a 48-volt system and produces 635 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque at its peak. This is 60 hp and 50 Nm more than the compressor Range Rover Sport SVR of the previous generation. The Range Rover Sport SV comes standard with an eight-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, a rear-wheel swivel mechanism and an active differential, which is complemented by a brake-assisted thrust vectoring system.
All SV mechatronics received original settings. But the main innovation is the 6D Dynamics adaptive air suspension, the struts of which are connected by a hydraulic circuit that acts as anti-roll bars. The system fights pecks when braking and rolls when cornering, and unlike the McLaren 750 S, where the racks are connected diagonally, on the Range Rover they are connected longitudinally (front – rear) and transversely (left – right). Ground clearance is 10-25 millimeters less than conventional Sports, plus for the first time 305-mm tires are installed at the rear.
The SUV can handle lateral accelerations of up to 1.1g, 22 percent more than the Range Rover Sport SVR. Acceleration to “hundreds” takes only 3.8 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the BMW X5 M), the maximum speed is 290 kilometers per hour. The machine can be equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes with eight-piston Brembo Octyma calipers (the largest in the history of the model) and carbon fiber wheels with a diameter of 23 inches. Together they save 76 kilograms of unsprung weight. Composite is also used on the Range Rover Sport SV for the hood, grille frame and exhaust tips.
Other features include SV Mode driving mode with the ability to activate the TracDSC stabilization program for the track; upholstery in synthetic leather Ultrafabrics; translucent paddles with contour illumination; as well as the front seat Body and Soul Seat. The chairs are equipped with Subpac vibrotactile membranes, the operation of which is controlled by a special algorithm based on AI. The membranes immerse the listener deep into the sound field as they are connected to the audio system but are also used in Body and Soul Seat Wellness programs. They affect heart rate variability in different ways, may reduce anxiety or improve cognitive function.
In its first year of production, the Range Rover Sport SV will only be available to select customers, and even then by invitation only. The SV Edition One will be priced at £169,000 in the UK. When ordering carbon fiber options, the cost will increase to 190 thousand pounds.
