The electric crossover BMW Vision Neue Klasse X has been presented. The concept demonstrates the development of BMW styling and in a year should turn into a production model of the new electric family. The company promises an unprecedented driving and multimedia experience. The crossover will receive a panoramic projection screen and a new power plant with an 800-volt battery, thanks to which it can travel 30 percent more on a single charge than the current iX3.
BMW has adapted the Neue Klasse philosophy to the Sports Activity Vehicles segment and presented the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, a harbinger of an electric crossover that will hit the assembly line at the Hungarian Plant Debrecen plant in 2025. Formally, this is a derivative of the Vision Neue Klasse sedan, shown in 2023. But now the Germans are talking about adding the so-called fourth dimension to the original concept – driving pleasure.
Direct driving experience will be managed by two of the four chassis control units. The first will be tasked with managing the power plant, and the performance of the “superbrain” will be ten times higher than that of ECUs used today. The second task is even more ambitious – to make a quantum leap in automated control. The next step will be to combine the blocks into one supercomputer, which will be able to centrally analyze data coming from all vehicle systems.
A big bet is also placed on the high-voltage system of the next, sixth generation. It operates at 800 volts, allows you to get an additional 300 kilometers in 10 minutes and costs 40-50 percent less than Gen5 systems. The batteries in the Neue Klasse cars will be assembled from round cells, which will give a 20 percent increase in volumetric energy density and increase the overall power reserve by 30 percent.
As for design, BMW went even further in its research and used solutions from classic models of the 1970s in the Vision Neue Klasse X. The crossover is painted in Coral Silver. Its lights use 3D-printed elements, and aerodynamic design allows for a 20 percent reduction in drag coefficient and a quarter increase in efficiency.
Inside the Vision Neue Klasse X there is a media system with a central touchscreen and a BMW Panoramic Vision panel under the windshield, but the production crossover will also have a 3D projection. Another innovation is the HypersonX Wheel function. With its help, you can create your own soundtrack, which is broadcast into the cabin while driving. Following the fashion for everything environmentally friendly, the textile upholstery is made entirely from recycled polyester. Also used for finishing are materials based on bio-based materials and plastic caught from the oceans.
