BMW has unveiled a new version of the X1 crossover called the M35i xDrive. This is the most powerful civilian BMW with a four-cylinder engine.
The two-liter turbo engine was subjected to a deep modernization, the purpose of which was primarily to increase the strength of the structure. Thanks to the strengthening of the crankshaft and the connecting rod and piston group, as well as equipping the pistons with a special cooling system, the engineers were able to increase the boost pressure and increase the power to 316 hp.
The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Acceleration to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes 5.2 seconds. The top speed of the X1 M35i xDrive is limited to 250 km/h.
In addition to increasing engine power, the crossover received an adjustable sports suspension, and combined brakes with ceramic elements are offered as an option.
By default, the car is equipped with an all-wheel drive system and smart electronics that use stabilization systems and, coordinating its actions with the engine, imitate the operation of limited slip center differentials.
Production of the BMW X1 M35 will start at the Bavarian company’s US plant in October 2023.
