The unmanned Hyundai Ioniq 5 successfully passed the driver’s license test. Self-driving systems are still far from perfect, which causes many people to have some concerns about whether they can trust the autopilot with their own lives. To dispel all these stereotypes, Hyundai decided to take an unusual step – the Ioniq 5 electric car, equipped with a self-driving system from Motional, was sent to a real practical exam, which every driver candidate takes. And the autopilot coped with the test!
The exam took place in Las Vegas, and not only on the deserted outskirts of Sin City, but also on its main street – the Las Vegas Strip. The drone was supervised by Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles certified inspector Candace Jones, who has 25 years of experience administering practical exams.
During the trip, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 maintained speed limits, changed lanes and maneuvered correctly, and demonstrated the ability to accurately respond to stop signs and make safe left turns.
