Volkswagen showed what future electric cars will be like for the Chinese. The Volkswagen ID concept debuted at the Beijing Auto Show. Code. This electric car will not go into production; it has a different purpose – it demonstrates the technological achievements of the brand and a new design concept that the brand will adhere to in the future. That’s why Volkswagen didn’t even focus on the power plant, concentrating on the design and new features.
The show car is a crossover with a coupe-like muscular body, with cameras instead of exterior mirrors and touch panels instead of door handles, as well as a black glass roof and 24-inch wheels. ID.Code differs from serial electric cars of the ID line with its spectacular exterior design. It has unusual optics, seamlessly integrated into the front part of the body (it also changes color depending on the selected driving mode and the road situation), compact running lights and a solid rear light with a glowing red VW logo. The concept features hinged rear doors.
The crossover has “smart” side windows, which display various images – a virtual voice assistant (it even has a “face”), weather or battery level. The screen spans the entire width of the front panel, and there is also an additional vertical tablet installed slightly lower in the center. ID.Code has a fourth level of autonomy, so the steering wheel (which is more like a steering wheel) can be removed, and the driver and front passenger seats can be rotated 180 degrees to face the passengers in the second row.
There are also a number of unusual options: the interior can be disinfected with ultraviolet lamps, the air can be freshened with antibacterial filters, and dust can be removed at the same time – a compact robot vacuum cleaner is provided for this.
