Ford has introduced a new crossover under the old Capri name. The model will appear on the European market before the end of the year and, for example, in Germany it will cost from 50,911 euros. The range will include rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions equipped with an Extended Range battery. And approximately at the beginning of 2025, Capri promises to add a simplified version with a Standard Range battery, the price of which they want to keep at 45 thousand euros.
From the 1960s to the 1980s, under the name Capri, Ford produced a mid-size coupe that was intended to be the European equivalent of the Mustang. The new Capri has nothing in common with this car. The name itself has turned into a backronym, which stands for “Cool.” Athletic. Past meets future. Rebellious to its core. Intelligent technologies”. And the car, although it retained its coupe-like body, became a crossover on the MEB “trolley”. The new product will attract buyers with its bright body colors, minimalist interior and rich equipment.
Already in the initial version, the Ford Capri will have wheels with a diameter of 19 inches, a MegaConsole compartment between the front seats that can accommodate a 15-inch laptop, a heated and massage driver’s seat, as well as a media system with a 14.6-inch diagonal display. For an extra charge, they will offer ergonomic first-row seats, a panoramic roof, ambient interior lighting and a Bang & Olufsen audio system with ten speakers. The Capri’s basic set of electronic safety systems consists of 13 items, including safe door opening and obstacle avoidance functions.
There are two power plants – and both are electric. The first consists of an electric motor on the rear axle and a battery with a capacity of 77 kilowatt-hours, the second is dual-motor, with a battery of 79 kilowatt-hours. Output is 285 and 340 horsepower, respectively, and the range varies from 592 to 627 kilometers. The all-wheel drive Capri accelerates to the first “hundred” in 5.3 seconds, the single-wheel drive one in 6.4. The maximum speed is the same for both versions and is 180 kilometers per hour.
