Yes — foreigners rent cars in Baku every day, and the document side is simpler than most visitors expect. Here is what actually matters at handover, based on how we process hundreds of international rentals at Baku Cars.
Which licences we accept
- A national driving licence in Latin script (EU, UK, US, GCC, Turkish and most international formats) is accepted as it is.
- If your licence uses another alphabet only, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with the national licence.
- The licence must be at least 2 years old, and the driver 23–65. A passport completes the paperwork.
Road rules visitors ask about
- Right-hand traffic, like continental Europe and the US.
- Speed limits: typically 60 km/h in cities, 90 on intercity roads, 110 on motorways — always follow the posted signs.
- Alcohol: treat it as zero. Do not drive after drinking at all; penalties are severe and insurance cover is void.
- Seat belts for everyone; phone in hand while driving is fined; children ride in a child seat — ours is free for ages 1–7.
How the rental itself works for tourists
Prices start at 55 AZN/day with CASCO + OSAGO insurance included, free delivery at GYD airport arrivals, a refundable deposit from 200 AZN (depends on the car and driver age) and a 250 km daily allowance valid across Azerbaijan. Booking needs no prepayment: send your dates and a photo of your licence on WhatsApp (+994 50 999 77 99), pick a car from the live fleet, and it meets you at the airport.
