Aston Martin has unveiled a new model of the Gran Tutismo class – DB12. This is a classic sport car, heir to the DB5 model – James Bond’s first Aston Martin.
The manufacturer describes the DB12 as a completely new model. This is the first car created after Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll took control of the company. However, in reality, we are talking more about the evolution of DB11, which has been produced since 2017.
At the same time, the novelty has become noticeably larger, and its style has become less dynamic and more solid. In fact, if earlier the Aston Martin of the GT class was closer in concept to Ferrari, now the Bentley Continental GT is taken as a reference point.
The car lost the V12 engine developed by Aston Martin itself, based on two V6 blocks from Ford. Now the only engine left is a 4.0-liter V8 based on the Mercedes block, which British engineers have increased power to 680 hp. This is 41 hp. more than the old V12, which reduced the acceleration time to 100 km / h from 3.9 to 3.5 s. The maximum speed of the novelty reaches 325 km / h.
The new DB12 will be one of eight models that Aston Martin plans to introduce before 2026. Among the subsequent innovations will be both more dynamic models and electric cars.
