Toyota RAV4 has surpassed Tesla Model Y in global sales. In 2024, the fifth-generation RAV4, also known as Wildlander in some markets, sold 1.187 million units. This is 11 percent more than in 2023, CarBuzz writes, citing data from JATO Dynamics analysts. Tesla managed to sell 1.185 million Model Y units, while demand for the electric car, on the contrary, fell by three percent. However, the fight was intense: the difference in results is only two thousand cars, which is an insignificant number for the global market.

Both RAV4 and Model Y were seriously updated in 2025. The Japanese crossover changed generations, acquired a new look and became the only hybrid. It will enter its home market before the end of 2025, and will appear in others in 2026. RAV4 will be sold in 180 countries.
To spur demand for the Model Y, Tesla unveiled the Juniper version with an extended range. However, Elon Musk’s company is experiencing an image crisis in many markets, including key ones – the US, Europe and China. Sales of electric cars are falling, and the updated Model Y is no exception.
