Toyota Motor Company unveiled a concept car with the well-known name “Corolla” at the Tokyo Motor Show. The prototype bears no resemblance to the current model, either externally or in its interior design, and likely hints at the next-generation Corolla, although the company hasn’t stated this directly. Some forecasts suggest the Corolla family will be radically updated around 2027.

The prototype boasts an angular exterior with a dynamic silhouette and flared rear fenders. Unusual bumpers and filament-like LED inserts add a futuristic touch, although the vertically positioned main headlights have a more robust outline. Overall, the Corolla concept car is somewhat reminiscent of Toyota’s current bZ electric cars, but also resembles some previous Lexus concepts.

The interior appears slightly more realistic: it features near-production front and rear seats, as well as a traditional steering wheel. The Corolla was also equipped with a unique center console pedestal with a car-shaped transmission selector and a whole array of displays and touch buttons.

Toyota’s latest new model destined for mass production was the Land Cruiser FJ SUV. It is a sort of ideological successor to the iconic FJ Cruiser and the most compact model in the Land Cruiser lineup.
