The base price is thousands more than a regular Toyota Prius’s, but you also get more power and EV-only range.
The substantially glowed-up new Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid does so much right. It looks incredible, drives well, and is incredibly efficient. How much will the plug-in Prius cost you? Depending on trim, you can expect prices in the low $30,000 range to the low $40,000 range.
When it goes on sale this May, the new 2023 Prius Prime will come in three trims. All will use the new-to-Prius 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine (up from 1.8-liters before) paired with an electric motor to make a combined output of a claimed 220 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque with front-wheel drive, a healthy increase over non-plug-in Prius hybrids’ outputs, thanks to the larger onboard battery.
What will differ the most between these trims is the all-electric range (an estimated 44 miles, a huge increase from the last-gen Prime’s 25-mile range) and creature comforts.
