Following recent teasers, BYD has published full images of the new Sea Lion 05 crossover. It will be the second model in this line after the larger Sea Lion 07 electric car, but, according to AutoHome, it will receive a fifth-generation hybrid system, which is capable of providing a total range of 2 thousand kilometers.
BYD designers said that the appearance of the new crossover is largely inspired by sea waves. In their opinion, the visual connection with the sea can be seen in the design of the radiator grille with characteristic slats, the outlines of the front bumper and the overall silhouette of the Sea Lion 05. There are no images of the SUV‘s interior yet.
It was previously reported that the BYD Sea Lion 05 will have dimensions of 4710x1880x1690 millimeters with a wheelbase of 2712 millimeters. The crossover is certified in the DM-i modification, and this means that at least its first commercial versions will receive a proprietary hybrid installation. The fifth generation of this system was presented by the BYD concern in May.
According to preliminary data, the Sea Lion 05 DM-i will be equipped with a combination of a 100-horsepower 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a 163-horsepower electric motor. Two variants of BYD’s own batteries are provided, with which the new product will be able to travel 70 or 125 kilometers without using the internal combustion engine. The full premiere of the crossover should take place at the end of the month.
