Presented Kia K3, which will replace the global Rio. So far, Kia has shown only a sedan, but a hatchback is on its way. So far, only the four-door has been declassified, resembling a fastback rather than a sedan, but the five-day Kia K3 will soon join it. Sales will start in the fall.
In fact, Kia K3 is a new generation of Rio, but the Korean automaker decided to abandon the previous name in favor of a shorter index consisting of a letter and a number indicating the positioning of the model in the lineup. The main market for K3 will be Latin America, later it may appear in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
The premiere of the new Kia K3 took place in Mexico, and its production will also be launched there. From its predecessor, Rio, the model differs with “fanged” front optics and a narrower grille, a more sporty silhouette and additional window sections in the third pillars. Another important difference from Rio is the trunk increased to 544 liters (Rio has 387 liters). The K3 will also have a “driver” version with 17-inch wheels and double exhaust pipes.
The novelty received a digital instrument panel and a touch screen multimedia system, the size of which in the maximum configuration is 10.25 inches. A fairly rich set of auxiliary systems has also been announced, which, among other things, includes an automatic braking system, blind spot monitoring and a lane keeping system.
In Mexico, the K3 debuted with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated 123-horsepower engine that can work with both manual and automatic transmissions. The “charged” version of the GT-Line, in turn, is equipped with a 2.0 engine for 152 horsepower in conjunction with a six-speed automatic. And in export markets, the model will be offered with a 1.4 unit, the return of which is still unknown.
