Geely and Baidu showed the Jiyue 07 electric liftback. The second model of the joint brand received the index 07, not 02, as previously expected. The car is built on the Geely SEA architecture, which it shares with the first-born Jiyue – the 01 crossover – and Zeekr electric cars. IT giant Baidu is responsible for high technology – software, “connected” services and an autonomous driving system. The electric liftback will enter the Chinese market in 2024.
The Jiyue brand was founded by Geely and Baidu in 2021 and was first called Jidu. At first, Baidu owned the majority of the assets. However, because of this, the Chinese authorities did not give the young company permission for mass production, and it had to be restructured: now Baidu has 45 percent, and the automaker Geely has 65 percent.
Jiyue 07 is a commercial version of the Robo-2 prototype shown last year. This is a mid-size liftback, the exact dimensions of which have not yet been revealed. It has two Y-shaped headlights and a large panoramic roof, and there are no door handles at all: the doors are electrically operated and open with buttons on the window pillars.
Jiyue 07 has already won two design awards. The prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2023, which it shares with the Peugeot 408 and Genesis G90, and the iF Design Award 2023. The interior of the new product has not yet been shown.
The liftback is built on the SEA platform, like the Polestar 4, Volvo EX90 and EX30, as well as all Zeekr. In the initial version, it is equipped with a single electric motor with a capacity of 272 horsepower and a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 74.1 kilowatt-hours.
The more expensive all-wheel drive version already has two motors with an output of 544 horsepower and a 100-kilowatt-hour battery. The range is still unknown, but the 01 crossover with a “top-end” battery has a range of 720 kilometers – the liftback will probably travel even more.
