Volvo has once again updated the XC90 crossover. It has a new design, interior architecture, and improved equipment – including the addition of the latest generation multimedia and a recalibrated suspension. All modifications of the XC90 are now hybrid: among them are the “moderate” B5, B6 and the plug-in T8.
The XC90 crossover is very important for Volvo, so it had to be updated carefully, under the motto: just don’t spoil it. The appearance has become more modern, with some solutions borrowed from the electric Volvo EX90 and EX30. But the interior has been transformed even more. Here, the horizontal architecture of the front panel is emphasized, and an additional compartment on the center console, and decorative trims, for the finishing of which premium recycled materials were used.
Another innovation is the 11.2-inch multimedia system display with a pixel density increased by 21 percent. The home screen now displays frequently used applications and functions: maps, calls, selection of driving profile. In addition, there is a context panel, the icons on which change depending on the situation. For example, when driving at parking speeds, a button for activating the all-round cameras appears there.
In technical terms, the XC90 has not changed much. The basic suspension is tuned for greater comfort, adaptive air struts with the ability to adjust ground clearance are still available for an extra charge. At high speed, the crossover will squat by 20 millimeters, and off-road it will rise by 40. In addition, noise insulation has been improved, and the range of power plants is completely electrified and does without diesel engines.
