Rolls-Royce has developed an exclusive Phantom sedan with a unique finish, dubbed the Centenary. The new model’s design features, among other things, a Spirit of Ecstasy statue crafted entirely from gold and wood inlays that represent the most complex woodworking in the brand’s history. Only 25 Phantoms will be produced, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the iconic sedan.

The company calls the Phantom Centenary collection the most technically ambitious collection ever created by the brand’s craftsmen. The project took three years to develop, with designers spending around a year researching the model’s history for inspiration. Each trim element is said to reference specific historical moments.

The sedan’s exterior is painted in special shades of black and white and finished in a glass-flake lacquer. This technology is already used by the company, but while the flakes are typically clear, for the Phantom Centenary they used champagne-colored glass. This adds additional visual depth to the finish. The hood mascot was inspired by the very first Spirit of Ecstasy, which appeared on a Phantom in 1925. Each mascot will be hallmarked by the Assay Office in London.

The rear seats are trimmed in fabric with a multi-layered pattern, achieved through both embroidery and a special printing technique. The pattern features images of geographical locations associated with Phantom history, as well as historic cars and their most famous owners. The creators describe the fabric as a modern interpretation of a hand-woven tapestry. Historical references are also found in the “starry sky” on the ceiling and on the door panels, decorated with wood with a highly intricate thematic engraving.
