Toyota presented a restyled hybrid Aqua. The subcompact hatchback adopted the new corporate body style, but in the interior and in terms of units it has not changed much. Along with the usual versions, a modified Modellista division is also presented.
The current generation Aqua debuted four years ago and has now undergone a scheduled restyling procedure. The design of the front end was spied on by the senior hybrid Prius. The headlights became LED already in the basic configuration, in more expensive versions a luminous jumper appears between them.
Due to other bumpers, the length has grown by 30 millimeters, to 4080. The width of the car has decreased by the same 30 millimeters due to more compact mirror housings. Part of the fifth door is now painted black, which visually increases the glass area.
There are not many changes inside. The central display in the dashboard has grown to 7 inches. The basic multimedia screen has increased from 6 to 8 inches, but in the more expensive version it retained a 10.5-inch diagonal. An HDMI port and an electromechanical parking brake with a key control appeared. Toyota Aqua has acquired an expanded package of active safety systems.
The power plant is the same, consisting of an atmospheric “troika” 1.5 with a capacity of 91 horsepower and an electric motor with 80 horsepower. A variator works in the transmission. For any configuration, you can order the all-wheel drive E-Four: however, the modest 6-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle helps only when starting off.
The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4.3 Ah was replaced with a nickel-metal hydride battery of 5.0 Ah. New for the “Aqua” adaptive brake force distribution system reduces dive during braking. As Toyota notes, it was previously installed only on expensive models – the Alphard business van and the luxury Century crossover.
The new product is already available for order in Japan. Prices start at 2.5 million yen (28,600 ₼). The lineup includes a full range, including versions with body kits from the factory tuning division Modellista.
