RM Sotheby’s has concluded the auction for an unusual McLaren F1 supercar. This coupe, with a rich history and one of only eight factory-rebuilt cars, sold for $25,317,500. CarBuzz claims this sets a new world record for the iconic supercar.

In 1994, this coupe became the 14th of 64 McLaren F1s built for road use. The car’s first owner, originally a yellow car, was the royal family of Brunei. Since then, the coupe has changed hands several times, including one of McLaren’s directors, and in 1997, Michael Schumacher signed the car’s door sill.

In 2007, its then owner brought the coupe to the McLaren factory in Woking for a comprehensive rebuild. The supercar lost the driver’s signature, having been repainted in its current Irbis White color. Instead, it received the High Downforce Kit, which included a fixed wing, a new front bumper, and additional air ducts inspired by F1 track cars. Additionally, the supercar received new headlights and a custom exhaust, and the driver’s seat received a carbon fiber frame. The rebuild cost approximately $500,000. At the same time, the car was signed by Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
