Every BMW model receives a facelift at the middle of its life cycle, usually 3 to 4 years after its debut. Two weeks ago, it was the turn of the BMW X7, and its refresh has completely changed the way we see SUVs from the German brand. Now, people want other BMW models such as the X5 and X6 to look the same.
Sadly, that’s not going to happen. The X5 and X6 are almost identical up to a point, and their facelift is almost finished. We’ve already covered some renderings on the matter which shed light on their new design. And as you can see, they’re nothing like a 2023 BMW X7 at the front.
However, the rendering artist Sugar Design has done such an excellent job at renewing the X6 (digitally) that we almost believed this is a real BMW reveal. Usually, his work is 3D, but we’re clearly looking at a Photoshop face swap here, directly importing the features from an X7 onto this smaller coupe-like model.
The most obvious change is a set of headlights, which not only split into two elements but also integrate some air intakes. This design is undeniably finicky compared to a Mercedes GLE-Class, but it also oozes aggression and sportiness. It says “get out of my way, pleb” in a way that only the Lamborghini Urus can.
And that last sentence perfectly describes the character of the X6. It’s the creator of the SUV-coupe segment and in X6 M flavor can actually compete with the Lambo for outright acceleration. All models are also quite expensive.
To match the blue paint, Sugar Design probably had to get the facelift grille from the 2023 BMW X7 M60i. This is a new model powered by the familiar twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. This has the added benefit of black trim and M-style grille elements. However, you may have noticed that the X6’s unique grille, which set it apart from the X5 sister SUV, has been replaced by a rectangular unit.
The X7 can now be equipped with 23-inch wheels now, the largest of any BMW. This type of upgrade is plausible for the X6. At the rear, many facelifts from the Bavarian automaker have introduced a 3D look for the taillights.
The interior of the 2023 BMW X7 hasn’t escaped the scalpel either. It gets the same type of ultra-widescreen as the latest models. New air vent openings and wood trim have been added.
New powertrains have been introduced by the X7 which are also found on the 7 Series. Because they’re designed to comply with Euro 7 emissions regulations, these should also be found in the real 2023 BMW X6 after the facelift, at least the ones made for the European market. Usually, a small electric motor has been integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox for added efficiency. It’s also possible that a more powerful X6 M will be offered, featuring an electric motor alongside its usual V8.
