Volvo has published the first images of the new generation XC70. Judging by the photos, the company will abandon the concept of an all-terrain station wagon in favor of a more traditional crossover. It is promised that the XC70 will receive a plug-in hybrid with a large electric range, while at least for the first time the new product will remain exclusive to the Chinese market.
The exterior of the new Volvo XC70 is made in the current style of the brand with a characteristic body silhouette and front design, where two-tier lighting is used. The main vertical blocks are installed along the edges of the bumper, and at the junction of the bumper and hood, the signature running lights “Thor’s hammer” with a rethought design are located. Also, active blinds will appear in the front of the body. The Volvo XC70 is based on the CMA platform. The company characterizes the crossover as a plug-in hybrid with an increased power reserve: it will be able to travel about 200 kilometers on electric traction. According to Volvo, this will allow most daily trips to be made without using the internal combustion engine, which will only be needed for long-distance travel.
The XC70 will occupy a place in Volvo‘s global model lineup half a step above the XC60, but is intended primarily for China – orders will be accepted there at the end of the year. The company mentions that it developed the model taking into account regional specifics. At the same time, it is not excluded that the new product will appear in other markets, but a final decision on this matter has not yet been made. The exact date of the full premiere of the XC70 has not been named either.
